Academic qualifications for diploma course
To qualify for admission in this course you require one of the following qualifications


QUALIFICATION
MANDATORY SUBJECTS
ADDITIONAL SUBJECTS

 KCSE mean grade C (plain),
English/ Kiswahili, Biology or Biological sciences and Chemistry
C-(minus) in Physics or mathematics.

 KCSE mean grade C (plain),
English/ Kiswahili, Biology or Biological sciences and Physical sciences
C-(minus) in Mathematics.
3
KCE Div.1 or II
At least six (6) credit passes in English, Biology, Physical Science, Chemistry or Physics.

3 Year basic Diploma Program in
Clinical Medicine and Surgery

Suitable for High school graduates who have met the required minimum grades in sciences, language and mathematics.
  1. Reproductive Health
  2. Pediatrics
  3. Anesthesia
  4. Mental Health
  5. Lung and Skin Diseases
  6. Ear, Nose and Throat
  7. Ophthalmology And Cataract Surgery
  8. Ophthalmology and Low Vision

Clinical officers who have at least three years’ experience in clinical practice and who wish to specialize in the particular disciplines offered at the department.
AWARD:  Diploma in Clinical Medicine and Surgery
AWARD: Higher Diploma of the Kenya Medical Training College.

EXAMS
Exams are held at the end of every semester. Examination methods include:
  1. Objective Structured Clinical Examinations (OSCE)
  2. Written Examinations
  3. Clinical Assessments.

 Mode of learning
All the Courses offered are full time programs. The course delivery methods are:
  1. Face-to-face contact with lecturers, facilitators and other resource persons.
  2. Self-directed learning.

Course duration
  • Diploma in clinical medicine and surgery takes three academic years
  • Higher Diploma programs take 12 to 18 months.
Target qualification (AWARDS)
The basic diploma course leads to the award of Diploma in Clinical Medicine and Surgery while the post- basic programs lead to the award of Higher Diploma of the Kenya Medical Training College.
